This year’s ironman started an hour or so later than 2012 which meant there was better light to capture the start. More pics here.

The last cycling event I covered was the UCI Road World Championships in Geelong. This time it’s in Melbourne and at the Hisense arena for the Track World Champs. 5 days of racing. Here’s the start of the pics. More here.

Here’s where photographer’s are allowed to go to get the shots. The only event I know of where we’re allowed on the actual circuit!

The next day was Men’s Time Trial. The last to start was Fabian Cancellara – remember him? Starting last wasn’t a hindrance to him winning the event and making history as the only person to have won the world championships four times. Fabian crossing the line:

I shot the first day of racing at Bailey Bridge. Managed to get almost every rider at around the same location. This is the winner Emma Pooley from Great Britain:

The next day was familiarisation. This is the start-finish line up a long straight road in the heart of Geelong: and getting the photographer’s bib – with a $50 deposit:

On Monday, the hype started with a press conference with the Swiss team. Fabian Cancellara is the red hot favourite to take out the time trial and maybe the road race as well…
