Here are some sample photos of the EOS R6 with a 400mm f/2.8 v3 + adapter, the RF 70-200mm and the RF 100-500mm. They were all shot using Servo AF, Case A, with People/Eye Detect enabled.

Here’s what it was like covering the Australian Open during a snap 5-day lockdown with no fans in the stands. A moment in time, recorded. Let’s hope it never happens again.

Canon has made huge strides in their mirrorless line of cameras. Sony’s A9 Mk II is generally agreed to be the current benchmark, especially it’s ability to shoot at 20 fps with it’s electronic shutter without any noticeable rolling shutter. So is Canon’s current EOS R6 rolling shutter acceptable? Here’s a photo from The Australian […]

Took the new “tiny” Nikkor 500mm f/5.6 PF lens with the Nikon Mirrorless Z 7 out for a run last night at the A-League opening match for the season. Lots of mixed autofocus posts and youtube reviews by bloggers so I wanted to see how it went in an event. The round 1 derby at Marvel Stadium […]

For the 2018-19 A-League soccer season Keisuke Honda has signed up to Melbourne Victory. Probably the biggest star to play in the A-League, it will be a most interesting season.

Apart from the Winter Olympics, the pinnacle of the skiing calendar is the biennial world ski championships. In 2017, St Moritz is the host city, having done it four times before. I’ve shot ski racing before and this was going to be a treat. After two weeks below is a sample. More here.

At what is probably the first international event where Nikon’s NPS and Canon’s CPS had the new flagship cameras available I couldn’t resist to take them both out for a spin. Readers may remember that I switched from Nikon to Canon about 3 years ago when I was let down by the Canon 1D Mk3’s autofocus […]

The most uplifting sports event I’ve ever covered was the Homeless World Cup when it was held in Melbourne, 2008. You can read about the event here. The event was staffed by largely volunteers, including the photography team. I turned up to cover it as a freelance but after meeting the team led by Michael Brown […]

My travel plans had me in the Northern Hemisphere in late May and I covered the French Open. The clay surface, the late afternoon light, and the suburban location are the three unique characteristics of this event. The photography points on the major courts are also special. Court level, high up, in the stands, and also low […]
