Curry Corner – Cheltenham

The Curry Corner is an amazing Indian restaurant in Cheltenham. Various people and reviewers have said it’s the best Indian restaurant in the UK, and therefore, probably the world. So we went there for lunch and we were just blown away. Amazing samosas, nann, and sublime curries. The desserts are also simply amazing. Pictures don’t do it justice! One of the most memorable meals of this trip:

Bletchley Park – home of spies and code breakers

Bletchley Park is a the museum for encryption, secret codes and computer geeks. This is where digital computers began with Alan Turing’s ingenuity and a team of other uber geeks. They cracked the codes that allowed the Brits to shorten and win the war against the Germans. Click on the pics for more info. A must visit.

Dinner by Heston – 2nd visit

We had lunch with our dear friend Janine from Zurich at Dinner by Heston. It was a return visit for Kim and I and the first time for Greta and Mia. This time we had a table right beside the kitchen. Here are some photos of the restaurant and the scallops, angus beef and chocolate ganache. Click on the photos for more info and captions:

England v Spain at Wembley

12 November. We were lucky to have the current World Champions of football – Spain – play a match at Wembley Stadium against England. Very excited to visit the new stadium, it’s a beautiful piece of architecture with the feeling of a cross between the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Etihad Stadium. The 3 tiers of seating is similar to the “G” and the seating is like Etihad. I was surprised that there wasn’t much emotion in the stadium. Quite clinical and didn’t come away with a feeling that it was magical.
Getting to Wembley from London is pretty easy. There are two tube stations that serve the ground. One to the north and one to the south. We went from Oxford Circus via the Bakerloo line. You have to catch the train that goes to all the way to Harrow & Wealdston as some trains stop before Wembley Central at Stonebridge Park and Queens Park. From Wembley Central it’s a 15-20 minute walk to the ground. The train runs every 10-15 minutes. After the match the train was packed like a sardine can all the way to Paddington. Here are some pics.

Yauatcha restaurant

12 November. Off to spend a day in London to see England play Spain at Wembley and have some lunch. There aren’t many chinese restaurants with a Michelin star and fewer tea houses. Yauatcha is a “modern reinterpretation of the old Chinese teahouse”. It works. It’s funky (probably a bit too much), excellent food and exciting. Tip: reserve a table upstairs and downstairs is a bit too funky for my taste.
