F1 Practise – favourite shots – Nikon D4 First Images

It was a wet/dry day of F1 practise in both sessions. Here are my favourite shots. The panning shots are shot with a Nikon D3x with a 28-300mm lens and the other shots are with a Nikon D4 and a 400mm.
First impressions of the Nikon D4 for sports is that the Auto Focus behaves differently to the D3s/D3. The AF tracking seems to be more sensitive to the initial focus point. If you get that wrong then the burst will be out. I’ll try to post a sequence showing this separately. In the mean time, you can see more practise day shots here:

High ISO D4 images

Had a chance to shoot this morning from the top of the Rialto tower. These were shot through a window with the 28-300mm lens at ISO between 6400 and 1600 with some Lightroom post processing. More photos here.

The secret interior of Albert Park Grand Prix

I posted this last year but as its F1 week, here it is again. A 3 minute video of driving through the internal roads of the GP circuit into the media car park, and then leaving the circuit at the Albert Park Grand Prix:

Nikon D4 arrives

Arrived in the nick of time for shooting the F1 Grand Prix in this weekend. Stay tuned for sample images. The NPS wrapping was a nice touch as was having your name on the box! Another nice surprise was Nikon putting in a 16GB XQD card and reader. Here’s a plug for the good folks at Kirk’s Cameras in Ringwood. See Paul if you’re after one.
