30cm fell overnight with another 30cm tonight. The trees outside our window this morning…

The Canadian equivalent to G’Day. It’s everywhere – on packaging, newspapers and ads.

These took Kim’s fancy today at the supermarket…

Kim strained her calf muscle in her left leg while skiing off the Emerald chair. We’ll know how badly in 48 hours. Hopefully the Whistler Physiotherapy Group will do some magic.

Ordered some essential bits from the mail order house Mountain Gear including these Marmot Expedition Mittens. They worked well! It’ll be interesting to compare them to the Outdoor Research Super Couloir glove and the Mountain Hardware Absolute Zero Mitt. Mountain Gear has great prices and ships all over the world.

We had a meal at the Four Seasons Hotel tonight – the Fifty Two 80 Bistro. It was their weekly Wednesday seafood BBQ buffet – very nice. Drank a Gehringer Brothers “Optimum Series” pinot grigio and a flight of ice wines from Jackson-Triggs and Mission Hill.

Chef Merv from the Aubergine grill made a birthday cake of creme brulée. Syd got some chocolate dipped strawberries to celebrate…

Where the girls sleep…

Greta and Mia have been snowboarding the last 3 days. Mia did 38 turns in a row yesterday! Today’s DEMO day – K2, Salomon, Atomic… See all the tents set up in front of the Roundhouse restaurant.

Greta went back to the health center today as she couldn’t keep any food or fluid down. Saw Dr Wallman again and he said there’s a particularly bad tummy flu going around. They did a blood test to make sure her platelets were normal and gave her some fluid via IV. She ended up with […]

We watched the mogul run live. Now the front page of the local paper is claiming a Canadian medal! Read Aussie mogul wins Canada’s gold. The articles talk about his ‘secretive’ Internet business – there’s nothing secret – it’s all here from the Internet archive: adscpm.com.

It’s been minus 15-20 the last two days. An Arctic blast is coming down and making temperatures the coldest for awhile here. The sun’s still shining – hasn’t stopped since we arrived – which is better than the 2 days of sun in January. The real-time temperature is here.

Kim got a birthday present from Molly today – lots of chinese sweets…

If you want a winter olympics gold medal get down to Whistler…

It took me awhile to figure out how this bin worked…

The coldest day so far, around minus 10 and clear blue skys. Mia needed a pair of skis and we found a pair of Dynastars… In the village with the Whistler Gondola in the background.

It took a week, but the girls took out the sofa bed!

We skied over to the Creekside area today. Creekside was the original Whistler base so it’s the oldest area of Whistler. Both the men’s and women’s downhill will finish down at the base area of Creekside. Ate lunch at Dusty’s. A nice casual place – probably the best lunch spot we’ve found to date.

Greta, Kerstin and I headed over to Blackcomb today. Skied all over, tried to get to the glacier again but the T-bar had already stopped. Had lunch at Christine’s and had the salad+salmon combo – probably the best value meal on the mountain at C$11 before a 20% discount for ski pass holders. Service could […]

Kim and I took a guided tour on Blackcomb mountain and the host took us to the Blackcomb Glacier. It’s a short hike but the snow and the skiing was excellent. Unfortunately I left the memory card for the camera at home but there are some photos of the area here. Hopefully we’ll get there […]

Did a free mountain tour today and took some panoramas of Whistler. Top of Emerald chairlift… Top of Creekside gondola and bottom of Big Red chair… The bowls off Pika’s Traverse…

Here are some pics of the men’s downhill course when Whistler hosts the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Very very steep but a great ski run!!!
