Perfect shooting conditions – mid 20s, stable lighting, lots of action. Good to catch up with Theo and Adam.

The Football Federation Victoria held a “Gold Medal” night for the summer competition and gave all attendees a Photo Book with quite a few of my images in it, including the full size cover and page 3. Can’t be purchased – a collector’s item for the future?!

A rare daylight match at Etihad stadium. Nice to shoot when the light is clearer and more “blue” than the artificial lights.

Images from A-League action at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne. Good crowd of over 20,000 – High res slideshow is here.

If you like seafood fresh from the catch, these days you really have to catch it yourself of go down to the market and make friends with a fishmonger. However, at the township of Strahan in the southwest corner of Tasmania there’s a fish and chip shop that sells the freshest and best value seafood […]

This is a great post about what’s what in Australia. In summary: GSM 900/1800 = Standard for Optus, Vodafone and TelstraBut if you are on 3 you should roam onto Telstra GSM, but note in places like Tasmania, this doesn’t work so you’ll have no coverage.3G on UMTS 2100: Telstra 3G, Optus 3G, Vodafone 3G, Three […]

Here are a few images from Tassie. Some shot on an iPhone and some on a Nikon D3s and D700:

If you have an iPhone with a 3 SIM it will roam onto Telstra’s NextG network in Tassie. Very good coverage. It’s a UMTS 850 network which the iPhone works with. However, if you have a handset that doesn’t support UMTS 850 like the Sony K610i it will not roam onto Telstra’s GSM 900/1800 network. […]

Had to pick an app for my iPhone. The choices were TomTom, Sygic and Navigon. As all three have had an update recently none of the current reviews were much help. Since TomTom didn’t have Text to Speech I decided to get Sygic. Well, initial impressions are very good. [update: TomTom’s current release now has […]

Chase Jarvis blogged this “how it was done” video from a Hollywood studio. With the power of home computers these days I can see many budding cinematorgraphers shooting some amazing scenes with a $600 HD video enabled Nikon or Canon DSLR and a simple 50mm 1.4 lens. I’m hopeful iMovie ’10 will have simple video compositing features, […]

[Tip: Watch it in HD for best quality – click on the “HD” button and then Full Screen – bottom right] Photos and video from lunch on Christmas Day 2009. First time using the HD video features of a DSLR. All images shot using a 85mm 1.4 lens and lit using a Litepanel MicroPro light. […]

The Luminous Landscape writes: This is an important thing to get right when you’re shooting in RAW: Settings for an Accurate Histogram. I was surprised how much difference changing the Contrast setting in the Picture Control setting of the Nikon DSLRs make on the shape of the histogram. I’ve now got a RAW shooting bank […]

Found these good references from this article:http://www.aisleone.net/2009/design/myths-misconceptions-about-grid-systems/http://www.thegridsystem.org/http://www.designinfluences.com/fluid960gs/http://www.alistapart.com/articles/fluidgridshttp://fluid.newgoldleaf.com/

Santa brought Kim a LitePanel MicroPro. It’s a low energy LED continuous light source. Very cool (literally). Write up soon.

Not sure why, but the latest FlipShare v5.05 software isn’t available outside the US. But here’s the download link or click the image to start the download.

Found this entertaining audio of Platon’s talk at last year’s Eddie Adams Workshop via Laforet’s blog

Very excited… The Photobook Greta and I made last week has arrived!

A terrific guided tour of a shoot Platon did at the United Nations in September

Teo Pellizzeri ran a story with one of my photos from Sunday’s match in the Shepparton News today…

Another bright and super contrasty day. Lots of problems getting AF to lock onto targets, but got a few…

Most photos shot with the Nikon D3S @ ISO 2000-2500.

Got together a selection of photos of the Victorian Under 14 Girls Soccer team from this year’s National Junior Championships and turned it into a photobook via Blurb – check it out: Victorian Unde… National Junior Ch… By Sydney Low

So I got excited by TB3’s new search feature which is similar to the once great Zoe idea. However, after importing my Mail.app local files and letting it index overnight TB3’s not a replacement for Mail.app and Spotlight. TB3’s search feature presents the results in a more contextually useful way allowing the results to be […]
