Photo Archive News

I came across this web site via a tweet http://www.photoarchivenews.com/.After subscribing to receive the newsletter, the author Will Carleton blogged about my site changes. Given the recent exhibition I was in at the National Sports Museum the work of archival sites has made me more aware of the value and need for sites such as this.

Momo Restaurant Melbourne

Worth trying. It’s not blow your socks off but it’s one of the few places that I’ll make a return trip to. Recommended!

The special for the night was his Duck Bisteya. This is a photo of the pidgeon version. Basically confit duck baked in puff pastry. Very good:

New site and blog with photoshelter integration

I finally migrated my web site, blog and image archive into a single platform. Previously I had Slideshowpro Director serve the images on my main site, wordpress.com to host my blog and Photoshelter for the image archive. The migration is now a free Graph Paper Press wordpress theme (Widescreen) that’s covering the main site https://syd-low.com, blog https://syd-low.com/blog with the Photoshelter archive http://images.syd-low.com/ integrated into the whole site.

There was nothing really tricky about pulling it together but I did find a bug (and came up with a workaround) with the wordpress.com export XML file that didn’t want to import cleanly into a self hosted wordpress 3.0.1 site. Other than that it was follow the instructions on the wordpress installation, GPP theme and photoshelter integration.

A-League Round 16

A cold and wet night meant shooting from the stands. Images here.

Thank you VCAT – Yamaha, you lost

Yamaha wanted to charge $350 for a part of the PDX50 speakers when you can get the whole system for around $299 street price. Importers should know the law and stop ripping off customers. Why consumer product companies do this in the 21st century is beyond me. There’s been 3 decades of customer loyalty learning from every MBA school you can think of but Yamaha thinks that by ripping off an existing customer will be great for profits and its shareholders.
Thank goodness for VCAT. Before the matter was heard I’ve now got the part for $68 as a “negotiated settlement” which is eminently more reasonable than $350. Ask yourself why I even had to lodge a claim at VCAT to get Yamaha to sell the part at a reasonable price. I certainly won’t be buying anymore Yamaha products for the rest of my life. Lifetime value of this customer to Yamaha = $0
